Passover and recognizing the Jewish state

The purpose of the Passover seder is to teach our children (and to remind ourselves) of our history and identity as a people and a nation. For at least 2,000 years, and probably long before, Jews have learned and relearned this history, from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to slavery in Egypt, the dramatic Exodus at the heart of the celebration, and the return to Israel – the Promised Land. In every generation, our ancestors asked the questions, recited the answers, and debated the consequences, ending with “Next year in Jerusalem”. For those of us privileged to live in the restored Jewish homeland, the thrill of fulfilling this ancient wish never gets stale.

Where Does Naomi Wolf’s Hypocrisy End, Or Does It?

nwNaomi Wolf has joined the Hamas chorus by attacking feminist hero Phyllis Chesler for being a Zionist agent. How facilely Wolf has adopted the language of Jew-haters the world over — an even more bitter irony coming from someone who has written an entire book comparing democratic America to Nazi Germany.

And Chesler’s sin? To have dared to challenge the Left’s party line of defending the Islamic mutilators of adolescent girls, and practitioners of gender apartheid. But then again, this isn’t anything new for Wolf, seeing that she is on the record for finding the burqa sexy.

In her recent article, “Brandeis Feminists Fail the Historical Moment,” Phyllis Chesler criticized Brandeis’ phony feminists for their complicity in the University denying an honorary degree to Ayaan Hirsi Ali.  In a response on her Facebook page, Wolf joined the anti-Semites of the Mearsheimer-Walt-Blumenthal set, claiming that Chesler has no mind of her own but is merely a puppet of the organized Jews:

Raymond Ibrahim: The Ultimate Source of Islamic Hate for Infidels

Who is ultimately responsible for the ongoing attacks on Christians and their churches throughout the Islamic world?
Focusing on one of the most obvious nations where Christians are regularly targeted—Egypt’s Coptic Christians—one finds that the “mob” is the most visible and obvious culprit.  One Copt accused of some transgression against Muslim sensibilities—from having relations with a Muslim woman, to ruining a Muslim man’s shirt—is often enough to prompt Muslim mobs to destroy entire Christian villages and their churches.
Recently, for example, after her cross identified Mary Sameh George as a Christian, a pro-Muslim Brotherhood mob attacked, beat, and slaughtered her.
However, a recent Arabic op-ed titled “Find the True Killer of Mary” looks beyond the mob to identify the true persecutor of Christians in Egypt. According to it:
Those who killed the young and vulnerable Mary Sameh George, for hanging a cross in her car, are not criminals, but rather wretches who follow those who legalized for them murder, lynching, dismemberment, and the stripping bare of young Christian girls—without every saying “kill.”  [Islamic cleric] Yassir Burhami and his colleagues who announce their hate for Christians throughout satellite channels and in mosques—claiming that hatred of Christians is synonymous with love for God—they are the true killers who need to be tried and prosecuted…  The slayers of Mary Sameh are simply a wretched mob, with the body of a bull but the brain of a worm.  It’s not the puppets on the string who need punishing, but rather the mastermind who moves the puppets with his bloody fingers behind closed curtains that needs punishing.
One fact certainly validates this Arabic op-ed’s assertions: the overwhelming majority of attacks on Christians in Egypt and other Muslim nations—including the slaughter of Mary Sameh George—occur on Friday, the one day of the week that Muslims congregate in mosques for communal prayers and to hear sermons.
The significance of this fact can easily be understood by analogy: what if Christians were especially and consistently violent to non-Christian minorities on Sunday—right after they got out of church?  What would that say about what goes on in Christian churches?

The disappearance of American will

Caroline Glick

hagel chang

The most terrifying aspect of the collapse of US power worldwide is the US’s indifferent response to it.

In Europe, in Asia, in the Middle East and beyond, America’s most dangerous foes are engaging in aggression and brinkmanship unseen in decades.

As Gordon Chang noted at a symposium in Los Angeles last month hosted by the David Horowitz Freedom Center, since President Barack Obama entered office in 2009, the Chinese have responded to his overtures of goodwill and appeasement with intensified aggression against the US’s Asian allies and against US warships.

In 2012, China seized the Scarborough Shoal from the Philippines. Washington shrugged its shoulders despite its mutual defense treaty with the Philippines. And so Beijing is striking again, threatening the Second Thomas Shoal, another Philippine possession.

In a similar fashion, Beijing is challenging Japan’s control over the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea and even making territorial claims on Okinawa.

PIP (Peace isn't Possible):PA Official: Recognizing Israel as a Jewish State is 'Fantasy'

Dalit Halevy, Tova Dvorin

The Palestinian Authority (PA) stubbornly clings to its resolution not to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, despite the move's contribution to the failure of peace talks - and the PA's faltering image.

On Thursday, PA official Mahmoud Khalifa called Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman's demands that the PA recognize Israel as a Jewish state a "fantasy," and claimed Israel is "running away from the implementation of the peace process, and conditions which would cover up [its] crimes of [building] settlements and land theft."

Khalifa also said that Israel's operations against terrorism in PA-run areas constitute "aggressive and unilateral actions which show clearly that Israel is skirting the peace process."

He then accused both Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Liberman of power-mongering - and murder.

The Moses legacy

Yoram Ettinger

3,400 years ago, the Moses legacy was shaped during the first clash of civilizations (Passover) between faith and responsibility-driven liberty (Moses) on the one hand, and paganism and subjugation-driven repression (Pharaoh) on the other hand. The victory of the Moses legacy established a dramatically new world order for millennia.
In 1623 and 1630, the mindset of the Mayflower and Arabella Pilgrims was: a departure from contemporary Egypt (England), the parting the modern day Red Sea (the Atlantic Ocean), culminating with the landing in the new Promised Land (USA). They laid the foundations for the morally, industrially, scientifically and militarily exceptional Judeo-Christian American culture, based upon the Moses legacy.
In 1776, America's founding fathers fulfilled the vision of the Pilgrims, establishing a unique political system, eventually naming it "federalism" -- a derivative of the Latin word "foedus" -- the Covenant. They were inspired by British and French political scientists, as well as by the Moses legacy of disciplined-liberty, justice and the separation of powers. They viewed themselves as "the people of the modern-day Covenant" and overcame "the modern-day British Pharaoh" in a clash of civilizations, which jolted the prevailing world order.

Dead wrong

Ruthie Blum

On Thursday, Israel and the Palestinian Authority agreed to continue "negotiating" the terms that would enable both sides to extend "negotiations" on whether to enter "negotiations" for Palestinian statehood. The farce has become so tedious that its latest act wasn't even mentioned in the Israeli media.
This is not surprising.
Like the boy who cried wolf, representatives of the United States, the PA and Israel keep pretending that a deal of some kind is around the corner. And, as in Aesop's fable, when it does arrive, its deadly fangs will likely go unnoticed until it's too late.

Put it all on the table

David M. Weinberg

The Palestinian Authority has made an entire series of new demands as their price for extending peace talks with Israel. The demands essentially amount to "giving away the whole store." The Palestinians demand that Israel up front completely capitulate to the Palestinian endgame.
The demands reportedly include an Israeli letter stipulating that the 1967 lines will be the border of the Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital; the release of at least 1,200 prisoners including the biggest terrorists of all (Marwan Barghouti, Ahmad Saadat and more); the lifting of the military blockade on Gaza; ending Israeli construction in eastern Jerusalem, and the reopening of Palestinian institutions there, such as Orient House; an end to Israeli military incursions into Palestinian-controlled Area A on the West Bank to carry out arrests; another settlement freeze; thousands of Palestinian family reunification certificates, and more.

Time to draw new lines

Ze'ev Jabotinsky

In 1928 my grandfather, my namesake, wrote in an article that the "character of a person is not black and is not white; it is the result of the relation between appetite and ability. Man has appetites and he seeks to fill them by turning to the path of least resistance. If the resistance is too great, the person says to himself that the benefit is not worth the cost and he forgoes his desires. But because he sees a lack of resistance, he says to himself: 'Here I can…' The most poisonous venom capable of infecting the virtue of man is the phrase 'here I can.' Any place where this term is valid, virtue is noneffective."
He came to this insight from historical examples, such as the difference between the Belgians' behaviors in their own country as opposed to in the Congo. Ergo his conclusion that the idea of turning the other cheek should never be adopted, under any circumstances. Restraint and failing to respond in kind to acts of aggression was unacceptable in his view, because it not only falls short of instilling the attacker with shame and restraint, it actually does the opposite -- it encourages him to act more aggressively because he feels that "here he can." In his opinion, this was the reason behind the persecution and pogroms against the Jews in the Diaspora. It is according to this principle that we must conduct our stately affairs, if we want to stay alive.

Islam and Human Rights

Click Here militants1n-3-webRecently, I met a Syrian Salafist while speaking to Leaders of Democracy Fellows about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Islam and human rights violations in Syria.
The individual who lives in Syria, and who seems to sympathize with Jubhat Al- Nusrah (Al-Nusrah Front), drew several distinctions between Islamic objectives of the global Jihad movement, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and Jubhat Al-Nusrah.

The argument was that these powerful movements in Syria and beyond attempt to create an Islamic state anchored in Shari’a law, the teachings of Islam, Muhammad, and Allah. But the difference between Jubhat Al-Nusrah and ISIL, according to the person, was that the mission of the Jubhat Al-Nusrah aims at only establishing Islamic social order and an Islamic state in Syria. Whether this mission spreads to other countries is not a part of their objectives, though other countries can adopt this political Islamic platform if they desire.

How Modernity 'Radicalizes' Western Muslims

Raymond Ibrahim

A new Danish statistical study finds that "Muslims [are] 218 percent more criminal in second generation than first." While some of these crimes are clearly related to Islam—such as attacks on Muslim apostates to Christianity—others, such as rampant theft of non-Muslims, would appear banal, until one realizes that even robbery and plunder is justified by Islamic doctrine—as one UK Muslim cleric once clearly said.
The interesting question here is why are second generation Muslims, who are presumably more Westernized than their Muslim parents, also more "radical"? Lest one dismiss this phenomenon as a product of economics or some other "grievance" against European host nations, the fact is, even in America, where Muslims are much better assimilated than in Europe, they too are turning to "radicalism."

Although it was not his intent, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has done Israel an enormous favor.  Specifically, by obsessively pursuing the "peace process" to its unavoidable dead end, Kerry has demonstrated that the two-state solution is, and has always been, a mirage
For 90 years the international community's best and brightest, far more capable than Kerry, have attempted to craft a territorial compromise to allow a Jewish state and Arab state to divide the land allocated to the Jews by the League of Nations in its Mandate for Palestine.  The results have always been the same: violent Arab rejection of any formula that would allow a Jewish state to exist in any borders.

Why Tolerance of Chutzpah?

Nurit Greenger
In the preamble of the United Nations (UN) charter ( it states that one of the reasons the organization was founded was in order to give mutual respect to every sovereign nation, of whatever size.
When the Arabs refused and still refuse, to accept the sovereignty of the State of Israel they should have been expelled from the UN.
What gave the Arab countries the right to refuse to recognize a sovereign state, in this case Israel?
How dare they go against the United Nations’ charter and refuse to recognize Israel while remaining members of the UN?
What puzzles one even more is how can Israel find herself, 65 years later, in a position in which the Arabs [“Palestinians”] and Saudi Arabia deliberating whether they are going to accept the Jewishness of the Jewish State? If this is not an outrage than what is?

PA hypocrisy

PA duplicity:
PA minister told Palestinians about terrorist prisoners:
They are not criminals,
their hands committed no crime,
they are an authentic element
of the Palestinian movement
[March 28, 2014]
The same minister told Israeli journalists about this week's murder of Israeli civilian:
"It hurts... We condemn the killing of any person. The principle of killing and violence is completely unacceptable" [April 16, 2014]
Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash met with Israeli journalists today and condemned this week's murder of an Israeli:
"This Israeli who was murdered, it hurts... We condemn the killing of any person. The principle of killing and violence is completely unacceptable."
[Israel Army Radio, April, 16, 2014]
Yet, just two weeks ago, this same Al-Habbash defended and honored all Palestinian terrorists who are in Israeli prisons:
"All the Palestinian prisoners who protected [our] land, honor and homeland are prisoners of freedom; they are prisoners of war. They are not criminals, will never be and have never been. Their hands committed no crime. They were defending themselves. They are an inseparable part of this national Palestinian movement and one of its authentic elements."

Al Qaeda: "We Must Eliminate the Cross"

Good to see our government is pretending to be completely clueless in a brilliant ruse to keep Al Qaeda off guard. (Whatever helps me sleep at night . . .)

Washington (CNN) -- A new video shows what looks like the largest and most dangerous gathering of al Qaeda in years. And the CIA and the Pentagon either didn't know about it or couldn't get a drone there in time to strike.

U.S. officials won't comment on that, but every frame of the video is now being analyzed by the United States.

In the middle of the clip, the man known as al Qaeda's crown prince, Nasir al-Wuhayshi, appears brazenly out in the open, greeting followers in Yemen. Al-Wuhayshi, the No. 2 leader of al Qaeda globally and the head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has said he wants to attack the United States. But in the video, he looks unconcerned that he could be hit by an American drone.

The video started appearing on jihadist websites recently, drawing the attention of U.S. officials and global terrorism experts. U.S. officials say they believe it's authentic.

COP: The ‘War on Women’ and Statistical Frauds

equal-pay-women-006The “war on women” political slogan is in fact a war against common sense.

It is a statistical fraud when Barack Obama and other politicians say that women earn only 77 percent of what men earn — and that this is because of discrimination.

It would certainly be discrimination if women were doing the same work as men, for the same number of hours, with the same amount of training and experience, as well as other things being the same. But study after study, over the past several decades, has shown repeatedly that those things are not the same.
Constantly repeating the “77 percent” statistic does not make them the same. It simply takes advantage of many people’s ignorance — something that Barack Obama has been very good at doing on many other issues.
What if you compare women and men who are the same on all the relevant characteristics?
First of all, you can seldom do that, because the statistics you would need are not always available for the whole range of occupations and the whole range of differences between women’s patterns and men’s patterns in the labor market.
Even where relevant statistics are available, careful judgment is required to pick samples of women and men who are truly comparable.

For example, some time back, Attorney General Eric Holder said that “the threat [of terrorism] has changed … to worrying about people in the United States, American citizens—raised here, born here, and who for whatever reason, have decided that they are going to become radicalized and take up arms against the nation in which they were born.”
Around the same time, Sue Myrick, then a member of Congress, wrote a particularly candid letter on “radicalization” to President Obama:

On anniversary of Boston jihad bombing, NYPD stands down

war-is-overWhat better day to announce such news than the first anniversary of what New York officials evidently think is the last Islamic jihad attack ever on American soil? De Blasio says: “This reform is a critical step forward in easing tensions between the police and the communities they serve, so that our cops and our citizens can help one another go after the real bad guys.”
Who the “real bad guys” were, de Blasio did not explain; however, as I show in Arab Winter Comes to America, in Obama’s military there have been several presentations depicting evangelical Christians and Roman Catholics as terror threats, so they may have been the groups de Blasio had in mind.
De Blasio also did not explain why counter-terror efforts would create “tension” in Muslim communities full of loyal American Muslims who reject and abhor jihad terrorism as a twisting and hijacking of their peaceful religion.

Why the Jews – Part 1 Understanding the root of the world's longest hatred.

Prejudice, it seems, is a standard fare of life. In his folksong entitled "National Brotherhood Week," Tom Lehrer sings:
Oh the Protestants hate the Catholics,
and the Catholics hate the Protestants,
and the Hindus hate the Muslims
and everybody hates the Jews.
In this song, Lehrer expresses the truism that hatred for the Jew is uniquely commonplace. The Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, blood libels, pogroms, countless expulsions and the systematic murder of 6 million.
The question is: Why? What lies behind these millennium of hatred? Why has the undercurrent of anti-Semitism bubbled and boiled and exploded against Jews everywhere, time and again throughout history?
In this 8-part seminar, we will examine the root reason for the world's longest hatred.

Jewish Leaders Down Under not intimidated

Isi Leibler

Former Australian Labor Party Foreign Minister, Bob Carr, this week released a 500 page book titled “Diary of a Foreign Minister” depicting his activities in office from March 2012 to September 2013. It includes a vicious attack on the Jewish communal leadership, charging it with disproportionate influence on government. The criticism is reminiscent of the notorious Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer book on the Jewish lobby in America.
For the sake of full disclosure, prior to my aliya, I was head of the Australian Jewish community for three terms. My brother, Mark Leibler, presides over the Australia-Israel and Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC), which is the Australian equivalent of AIPAC. Currently he is indisputably considered the most influential Jewish personality in the country.

Mainstream U.S. Muslim Jurists Association Sanctions Female Genital Mutilation

The Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America’s (
AMJA [1]’s) mission statement maintains the organization was,

…founded to provide guidance for Muslims living in North America…AMJA is a religious organization that does not exploit religion to achieve any political ends, but instead provides practical solutions within the guidelines of Islam and the nation’s laws to the various challenges experienced by Muslim communities…

A report in
The Muslim Observer [2] published October 21, 2010 highlighting AMJA’s “seventh annual American conference of imams,” confirmed that the organization is accepted [2] as such by the mainstream American Muslim community. AMJA and its “training” conference for American imams were described [2] in these banal terms:

COP: Where Did Your Tax Money Go?

It’s pretty unreal when you see it.

Your 2013 tax dollars—which are due today—went primarily to pay for government benefits.
Major entitlements (Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security) gobbled up 49 percent, while more federal benefits took another 20 percent. These additional “income security” benefits include federal employee retirement and disability, unemployment benefits, and welfare programs such as food and housing assistance. Obamacare spending didn’t really kick in until 2014, so that will show up in next year’s breakdown.

See how this compares to last year’s breakdown: National defense has been cut, while the major entitlements picked up an even larger percentage.
Is this where you expect the government to spend most of your money?

Pakistan: How the Blasphemy Law Really Works

Mohshin Habib

Sawan Masih has been sentenced to death, but what about those found guilty of inciting and committing violence and arson?
It [is] a travesty of justice that more than 3,000 people who burned the Christian neighbourhood in Lahore were free, while one man who was tried for a disputed charge was sentenced to death.
He said Pakistan's administration, police, military and courts want to contribute to their religion by somehow punishing the non-Muslims.
Sawan Masih, a poor Pakistani Christian who had been working as a sanitary worker in a section of Lahore surrounded by factories, was accused during the course of a conversation with a Muslim friend of insulting the Prophet Mohammed on March 6, 2013.
When the police arrested him two days later, he was accused of allegedly saying, "Jesus is true. He is the Son of God. He will come to save me, while Muslims' Prophet is fake."

Chag Pesach sameach

passoverWishing a sweet Passover to all Jihad Watch readers tonight.
Yes, as always, this year once again I mean all of you, not just Jewish readers, although to them the greetings are of course particularly directed. Israel remains on the front lines of the global jihad, and is increasingly isolated and vilified as that jihad advances everywhere and the friends of the Jewish State succumb to cowardice and opportunism.
But we are all Jews: all who stand with the Jews and all who are on the side of humane values and a civilization that allows the human spirit to flower.
It is more necessary than ever for all free people to stand with the Jews and with Israel on the front lines of the jihad. The fact that there are fewer of us this year, and more and more are giving up and capitulating in various ways to the forces of oppression and darkness, makes it all the more important for those of us who remain to stand, and to stand firm with all we’ve got.
Stand with Israel and all Jews worldwide against the jihad and Islamic supremacism! Stand with Israel for human rights! Stand with Israel for freedom! The great lesson of this night is that evil, no matter how powerful it appears, does not ultimately prevail.
Chag Pesach sameach! Am Yisroel chai!

American Muslims for Palestine's Telling Choice of Heroes

STEVE EMERSON April 15, 2014
In the American civil rights movement, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King were among those who set the moral tone. They were champions of non-violence who believed in civil disobedience to generate change by casting light on unjust laws.
If Saturday's fundraising dinner for the group American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) is any indication, role models for their cause include an unrepentant killer, a woman directly responsible for two people's deaths in a grocery store bombing. Prosecutors say she is in America only because she kept that crime a secret from immigration officials.
In addition to its praise for Rasmieh Odeh, the dinner at a banquet hall outside of Chicago offered further insight into AMP's radical ideology. Other speakers included a man identified as a Muslim Brotherhood leader in Jordan who previously led a Hamas-propaganda arm in America and a man listed as a member of the Palestine Committee, the Muslim Brotherhood's umbrella organization of American-based Hamas-support groups.

Palestinians must come to the table for peace

The burden is on the Palestinians to come to the negotiating table, not as equal partners, but as claimants, seeking to obtain something that they do not have.

As Secretary of State John Kerry tries to place primary blame on Israel for the stalled negotiations, it is important to look at the big picture and go back to first principles.

A little history always helps to understand the present.

In 1937-1938, the Peel Commission proposed a two-state solution in which the Jewish community of Palestine would receive a relatively small percentage of the land on which to establish the nation-state of the Jewish people.

The majority of the land was allocated to the Arab population, with the hope that they would establish their own state. The Jewish Agency, the predecessor to the Israeli government, reluctantly accepted the division.

The Arabs quickly rejected it.

British hate preacher Abu Hamza goes on trial in New York on Monday, facing the rest of his life behind bars if found guilty on kidnapping and terror charges that predate the 9/11 attacks.
It is the second high-profile terror trial to be heard by a Manhattan jury since Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law and former Al-Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Ghaith was convicted on March 26.
Mustafa Kamel Mustafa, better known in Britain as Abu Hamza Al-Masri, is blind in one eye and lost both arms, blown off above the elbow, in an explosion in Afghanistan years ago.
His trial will begin with jury selection on Monday and is the culmination of a 10-year legal battle.
On its second day, Tuesday, he will celebrate his 56th birthday.

US Government Promoting Islam in Czech Republic

Soeren Kern
April 14, 2014

Critics say the project's underlying objective is to convert non-Muslim children to Islam by bringing proselytizing messages into public schools under the guise of promoting multiculturalism and fighting "Islamophobia."
The group recently ran an advertisement promising to pay 250 Czech korunas ($13 dollars) to any student aged 15 to 18 years who would attend a two hour presentation about Islam.
More recently, Muslims in the Czech Republic have tried to ban a book they say is Islamophobic, and have filed a ten-page criminal complaint against its formerly-Muslim author.
The Czech government has approved a new project aimed at promoting Islam in public elementary and secondary schools across the country.
The project—Muslims in the Eyes of Czech Schoolchildren—is being spearheaded by a Muslim advocacy group and is being financed by American taxpayers through a grant from the US Embassy in Prague. (The US State Department is also promoting Islam in other European countries.)

Why is this year different from all others?

Precisely 70 years ago, during the Seder of 1944 in Auschwitz, 10 Jews were seated -- including my grandfather, blessed be his memory -- quietly singing, almost silently, "Why is this night different from all other nights?" Their grief was boundless, their pain acute. No child was left behind to ask the Four Questions, for all the children had been carried off to the heavens, lost in the plumes of black smoke billowing off the crematoria smokestacks at the concentration camp.

New Study: Nearly Every Israeli will Eat Matza and Keep Kosher on Pesach Eve

90% of Israeli Jews will participate in a Passover Seder, 80% of self-defined secular Jews said they believe in God, according to a study done by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics.

While 55% said they would make sure to only eat kosher during the entire holiday, nearly all said they would make sure to eat Matzah and only kosher food on Pesach night.

Those are some pretty good numbers.

The Peace Process Is Dead. Let It Lie Down

2014 Israel-Palestinian Peace Talks
2014 Israel-Palestinian Peace Talks
The April 29th deadline has not yet been reached, but it may be said with confidence that the initiative by Secretary of State John Kerry to revive the ‘peace process’ between Israelis and Palestinians has already reached its final destination: failure.
The failure of this initiative was obvious from the beginning.  To everyone except, apparently, Kerry himself.  This reality lent an element of low farce to the entire proceedings.
By now, it should really be obvious to any serious observer that there is no chance that the Israeli-Palestinian negotiating process will produce a comprehensive peace between the two sides.
There are two core reasons for this.  One of them is of long-standing, the other is a development of the last decade.

CBS, Colbert and Contempt for America

Robert F. Kennedy Center For Justice And Human Rights 2013 Ripple Of Hope Awards DinnerRush Limbaugh and other conservatives have expressed bewilderment over CBS’s abandonment of the “American Heartland” by choosing Colbert to replace Letterman.
Ed Driscoll has contrasted the pick with the Letterman and Leno succession battle. But the real lesson of that battle is that while Leno won on performance, beating Letterman in the ratings, Letterman won on image, retiring as an honored figure, despite his abusive behavior, while Leno was booed out the door.
Leno is no conservative, but he left with the baffled bewilderment familiar to many on the right of being the better man who is despised for his success, while his rival who failed miserably as a boss, a human being and a comedian, is leaving with a media ticker tape parade.
The issue wasn’t The Late Shift or Conan’s nervous breakdown; it was cultural. Leno appealed to a more middle class audience, while Letterman, like Conan, was the darling of a trendy wealthy liberal crowd.
NBC entertainment president Warren Littlefield picked Leno over Letterman after asking the guys he played basketball with which of the men they wanted to watch. It was a practical move that wouldn’t be repeated today.
Nobody would ask the basketball guys if they would rather watch Colbert or someone funny, because they don’t matter.
And that’s why Colbert was picked.

The sources said this marked the first U.S. request for Israel’s military to intervene in Syria. They said Obama and his aides had repeatedly warned Israel to refrain from striking Syria, which transferred long-range rockets and air defense systems to Hizbullah in neighboring Lebanon.

A celebration from generation to generation

Nadav Shragai

It was a damp night in 1878. David Gutman was speaking to a group of pioneers who had joined him in celebrating the first Seder night on land known as Mulabbis, what later became the settlement of Petach Tikva.
"Today we are the first birds to greet the light of dawn," prophesied Gutman, an optimistic and tireless man. The reality in which they lived was quite dismal, rife with diseases and complicated by an existential struggle. But on that Seder evening, the pioneers bandied about their comprehensive vision of hope, liberation and light. (These details and more were revealed recently with the publication of Yoel Moshe Solomon's personal diary, by his family).
Tonight, 136 years later, in much more prosperous times, living under true sovereignty and independence, we will mark Judaism's original independence day, the day our nation was born some 3,500 years ago. While this original independence day doesn't try to compete with modern Israel's Independence Day three weeks from now, it does imbue a phrase we will shortly recite with contemporary credence: "The nation of Israel, throughout the generations."

A Palestinian teenager's ambition in life is to be a killer of Israeli civilians, PA TV broadcast recently. The interview of the teenage girl took place in a school named after terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, whose bus hijacking north of Tel Aviv left 37 civilians murdered in 1978. The girl's statement demonstrates the PA's effectiveness in presenting terrorist murderers as heroes and role models for Palestinian youth.

Girl to PA TV about her goal in life:
"My life's ambition is to reach the level that the Martyr fighter Dalal Mughrabi reached..."
The purpose of the PA TV program was explained by the TV host:
"Today we are in the Dalal Mughrabi School [in Gaza], to get to know the Palestinian Martyr and fighter..."
Other children and teachers in the school were also interviewed.

Facebook Exec to Headline Muslim Advocates’ ‘Countering Hate on the Internet’ Dinner
Increasingly, the war in the information battlespace is being waged outside the hallowed halls of the enemedia. The Islamic supremacist group Muslim Advocates has announced that its Annual Gala 2014 on May 3 will host an “onstage conversation” about “countering hate on the internet” featuring Monika Bickert, the Head of Global Policy Management for Facebook, along with Muslim Advocates’ Executive Director Farhana Khera and Hilary Shelton of the NAACP.
The key to winning this war for freedom is in the war of ideas. So the apparatuses that truth-tellers and voices of freedom including my colleagues and me use, tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin, are of cardinal importance. When news from my website goes viral, invariably it is Facebook that drives it.

To Secretary of State John Kerry

Mr. Kerry,
I hold the utmost respect for the United States but that excludes you, as it is difficult to be respectful of you.
John Kerry John Kerry
In your quest for glory and possibly receiving a Nobel Peace Prize, all on account of Israel’s stance, you chose to ignore history and to recognize that one does not repeat what so many other failed so miserably and thus you left yourself deserved nothing but condemnation.
In the past, so many other rather clueless men and women, just like yourself, have tried, by unjust means, to force farce peace on Israel, NOT the Arabs (a/k/a Palestinians) who came along for the ride to loot Israel of whatever they could but never to deliver true peace.
The Middle East is an arena you cannot play unless you know the rules and the rules are of the Middle East Bazaar. Unfortunately, the United States and the rest of the Western world simply refuse to learn how one deals in this bazaar.

Dennis Prager
You're looking at the most political liar in American history.

By Dennis Prager
I have been broadcasting for 31 years and writing for longer than that. I do not recall ever saying on radio or in print that a president is doing lasting damage to our country.  I did not like the presidencies of Jimmy Carter (the last Democrat I voted for) or Bill Clinton. Nor did I care for the “compassionate conservatism” of George W. Bush. In modern political parlance “compassionate” is a euphemism for ever-expanding government. But I have never written or broadcast that our country was being seriously damaged by a president.

So it is with great sadness that I write that President Barack Obama has done and continues to do major damage to America . The only question is whether this can ever be undone.
This is equally true domestically and internationally.
Domestically, his policies have had a grave impact on the American economy.
He has overseen the weakest recovery from a recession in modern American history.
He has mired the country in unprecedented levels of debt: about $6.5 trillion — that is 6,500 billion — in five years (this after calling his predecessor “unpatriotic” for adding nearly $5 trillion in eight years).
He has fashioned a country in which more Americans now receive government aid — means-tested, let alone non-means-tested — than work full-time.

Hezbollah's Involvement in the Civil War in Syria*

Hezbollah operatives cerebrate their victory after the takeover of the city of Yabrud (YouTube, March 16, 2014).
The Takeover of the City of Yabrud
1. On March 15 and 16, 2014, the Syrian army, with Hezbollah assistance, took over Yabrud, a city in the Qalamoun region near the main road leading from Damascus to Homs. According to Lebanese and Syrian media reports, Yabrud was conquered in a swift military move that took less than 48 hours. According to the media, before the takeover roads leading in were blocked, the hills overlooking the city were occupied and artillery was fired to weaken the rebels inside the city.
2. The Syrian army and Hezbollah's rapid takeover of Yabrud caused some of the rebels to flee, reducing the number of casualties among the attacking force, and possibly contributing to lessening the physical destruction of the city. However, a senior source in the joint Syrian army-Hezbollah operations room reported that the Al-Nusra Front, a branch of Al-Qaeda and the most prominent organization among the rebel forces which defended the city, had lost hundreds of operatives in Yabrud as well as large quantities of military equipment (Al-Ra'i, Kuwait, March 17, 2014).

“Winding Down”

Preparing for the Pesach holiday, just a day away now.  Beginning to turn away from everyday happenings, to focus on ultimate questions, family, and the ritual of Seder.   I will not be posting again before the holiday starts on Monday night.  And I do not know that I will have a chance to post in the course of the week-long holiday.
I wish one and all a joyous and meaningful holiday:  Chag Pesach Kasher v’Sameach.

I read a commentary the other day, about how we were able to come out of Egypt, with the help of the Almighty, because we had courage to move on, chutzpah (nerviness), this commentator said. This is what our people here, and our leadership especially, require today.
It occurs to me, as well, that we were brought from Egypt to come to Sinai and the Torah, and then to enter the Land.  And now it is our task to hold fast to our inheritance.  Something to be remembered at this time especially.

The Jordan Valley: Israel’s Security Belt

Jordan Valley

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 232
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Israel must resist international pressure and hold on to the Jordan Valley – its only available defensible border to the east – in a future peace deal, as sudden changes in the volatile Middle East could render it even more important. Israel must also build in Area E-1, which would link the valley to an undivided Jerusalem. Israel should concentrate its settlement efforts in these strategic areas, and not in the more remote areas of the West Bank, which would signal both clear strategic preferences as well as possibilities for compromise with the Palestinians.

US Secretary of State John Kerry is once again in town trying to reach an agreement on a framework for continued peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. One of the issues of dispute is the fate of the Jordan Valley, which is indispensable for Israel’s national security. The Jordan Valley is the only available defensible border on the eastern front, the closest border to Israel’s heartland – the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv-Haifa triangle – which holds 70 percent of its population and 80 percent of its economic infrastructure.
Some pundits claim that Israel no longer needs the Jordan Valley as a shield against aggression from the east. They argue that the demise of the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq, the weakening of civil war-torn Syria, and the impressive stability of Jordan in light of the turmoil of the Arab world renders the threat from the east and its proximity to Israel’s center a thing of the past.
